NEW – COVID FAQ’s update for July 11th, 2021

The Ontario government supports OEBC’s role of assessing the qualifications and competence of candidates for licensing by provincial optometric regulatory authorities in the interest of public protection. ONTARIO REGULATION 82/20, under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020, permits OEBC to administer its in-person performance examinations under the current provincial reopening framework upcoming OSCE and OEBC’s subsequent performance examinations.

The health and safety of our candidates and exam personnel is of paramount importance to us. OEBC is continually monitoring the situation and implementing strategies for the safe administration of the exam at this difficult time. OEBC will follow public health requirements and those required by the University of Waterloo School of Optometry, Vision and Sciences (WOVS).

  • Face Shields: Updated building requirement from WOVS:
    • Please note ALL individuals entering the building on July 11th must wear a mask and now a Face Shield. OEBC will provide a face shield to all candidates upon arrival at registration. Candidates are responsible for bringing their own mask

  • Vaccines: Please note that ALL vaccinated persons are not EXEMPT from any public health guidelines at this time. Also, all candidates must comply with OEBC’s COVID protocols.
  • Travel: On April 10th, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (Dr. Williams) strongly advises that individuals self-isolate for 14 days when arriving in or returning to Ontario. The Government of Canada has placed an emergency order under the Quarantine Act that applies to all travellers arriving in Canada. Please follow the guidance and check for updates.
