Preparation for the LMS Exam
The Candidate Exam Guide sets out the examination administration policy and procedures and provides detailed instructions for the LMS exam.
The Exam has two components:
- Written Exam — a two-hour case-based assessment delivered via computer using remote proctoring, consisting of multiple-choice questions based on different case scenarios
- OSCE — a one-hour structured clinical evaluation presenting scenarios for minor surgical procedures; Suturing, Cryotherapy, Intradermal Injection, Laser technology for LPI, SLT & YAG
Optometrists develop the content for OEBC exam components, and psychometricians ensure each test item’s validity. The examiners for the OSCE are volunteer optometrists.
To set standards for its Written Exam, OEBC uses the modified Angoff method, the best practice for static assessments. For its OSCE, OEBC uses borderline regression, the best method to set the standards for dynamic exams.
OEBC is committed to ensuring that a candidate’s performance is accurately recorded for scoring. In exceptional circumstances, if anything has occurred that could reasonably be understood to have detrimentally affected the candidate’s performance or evaluation, the candidate has an opportunity to complete an Incident Report (written) or a Significant Disruption Report (OSCE).
